Gotta Craft Them All: Pokémon Hotel Poké

You’ve taken the plunge and fallen headlong into the Pokémon GO madness. It’s cool, no judgement at this craft blog! Why not go a step further and create a luxe hotel for your Pikachu, Charmander or Squirtle? After all, they deserve it. For an added dose of fung sui, depart from that dreary opaque Poké Ball ceiling and add a skylight–Aaah, that’s better!

Supplies:

Step 1:

Spray the inside of the lower hemisphere with white spray paint and let dry. Each brand takes a different amount of time to dry completely, so be sure to check the back of your spray paint for more information.

Spray paint the interior of the lower hemisphere white.

Step 2:

On the outside surface of the hemispheres, do some free range doodling with Puffy Paint. The white Puffy Paint on the bottom drys to a “grippy” texture that helps the Poké Ball sit upright.

Apply white Puffy Paint to the lower hemisphere.

Be sure to leave enough open space on the top hemisphere so that you can easily see inside. Let dry completely.

Apply red Puffy Paint to the top hemisphere.

Step 3:

Snip off the loops on the 2-part acrylic ornament. Wire cutters or scissors do the trick.

Clip off outer plastic loops with flush nose pliers.

Step 4:

Use the Loctite High Performance Spray Adhesive or some hot glue to fix the flat leather cord to the outside of the upper hemisphere. Don’t be tempted to glue the cord to both halves–you won’t be able to open it up later on if you want to swap in different Pokémon.

Hot glue black band to the upper hemisphere only.

Step 5:

Hot glue a small glass mirror over the seam of the flat leather cord.

Step 6:

Shoot some spray adhesive into the inside of the lower, white hemisphere. I used Loctite High Performance Spray Adhesive (About $10 for 13.5 ounces) for this project because it bonds to just about everything. Quickly press preserved moss into the lower hemisphere, covering the interior surface completely. You can generally pick up a bag at a local craft store like Joann’s Fabrics for $2-$6.

Layer in different types of moss, flowers, and rocks.

Your Hotel Poké is now open for business!
